#SundayYAthon

From 25th to 28th August @_babblebooks hosted a readathon on twitter that I took part in and I guess this post is kind of a diary of that experience.

My TBR

Day One
I was quite excited for this readathon as I have never taken part in a readathon before. So, I got up at half six to have maximum reading time. The first book I decided to read was The Rest of Us Just Live Here and after reading in 90 minutes bursts throughout the day I finished it at quarter past ten. I loved this story so much: the concept, the characters and the humour. I think what I loved most about the entire book was the way there is a massive, epic story line, but the story doesn't follow the characters involved in that, it follows the rest of them , only briefly mentioning what is happening to the Indie Kids at the start of each chapter Honestly, this book was amazing I gave it five stars and recommend it to everyone.
Having time after finishing this great book I moved on to On The Other Side and read 30 pages before bed and I'm not too into the story yet but I can see how this can be amazing. I really hope it is!
Day Two
Having gone back to On The Other Side throughout the day I can confirm it is as amazing as I hoped, all the characters are strong and well written, the concept is great and the set up of flashbacks and in purgatory and back in the real world works so well. Due to this I feel I know and understand all the characters and care for all of their stories even though Evie is the sole protagonist. I really enjoyed the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters as we always need more diversity. This description of pansexuality is amazing 'I care about the chocolate inside the wrapper' 'For me, it's the same with people': a wonderful analogy I definitely will use in the future! I didn't manage to finish this book today, but I am enjoying it and should finish it tomorrow, so I am still on track for my TBR.
Day Three
Today I went in to a bit of a reading slump so the remaining 70 pages of On The Other Side took me until 4pm to finish. The story itself I enjoyed quite a lot and I gave it four stars for two reasons the end seems so sudden and unfinished to me, I want to know what happens now Evie has reached Heaven, and sometimes the characters felt unrealistic for the age they were supposed to be, Overall it was pretty great. After finishing On The Other Side I swiftly moved on to Asking For It. So far Asking For It is good because I have not gotten in to the story or know the characters well enough yet, but I can see it will be amazing once I know the characters better.
Day Four
The final day! I started the day about 100 pages into Asking For It and was determined that when the day ended I would have finished it and I did. Asking For It was such an interesting and important book that I am so glad I read because I feel I learnt a lot about everyone around me and how they could react to rape happening around them through all characters opinions and thoughts.
At times this book mde me quite angry at the characters due to the reasoning they were giving for it not having been rape and the lack of support they showed for Emma, immediately looking to blame her; after all she was asking for it. I gave this book five stars and it is probably one of my favourite books I hae read this year because it is just so important. If you haven't read it yet you most definitely should it is phenomenal!
The Social Side
Throughout this readathon there was a DM group on twitter for all those involved to share what they were reading, support each other, get recommendations and make that little bit more competitive, it was great to have a community to share a solitary task with and takedown my TBR! Alongside, this we all shared what we were reading in the #SundayYAthon twitter tag, so everyone knew what we were reading. ON Day Four there was also the usual #SundayYA based around readathons and there was discussion of another #SundayYAthon happening in future, so if it does happen I can't recommend enough that you take part.
What I Read
I completed my TBR, reading The Rest Of Us Just Live Here, On The Other Side and Asking For It. I managed t read 3 books in 4 days or around 1040 pages in 4 days, which for me is huge considering usually I read about one 400 page book in 5 days.
Thank You
I want to say thank you to everyone involved in the SundayYAthon as without all of you I wouldn't have read as much as I did or enjoyed the experience as much as I did. Also, a really big thank you to Rachel is necessary for arranging this entire thing, well done on creating an amazing readathon and I appreciate all the hard work you must have put into creating it, having time to read and still organising #SundayYA.
Thanks for reading and hopefully more people will be involved in the #SundayYAthon if it happens again. What readathons have you done and what did you think of it?

July Wrap-up

I managed to read eight books in July and I think that is a new record for me! Let's look at what I read.
